Install or update the project converter

A project converter is needed to convert projects between NVivo 10 for Windows and NVivo 10 for Mac formats. This project converter is automatically installed the first time you convert a project.

The project converter enables projects to be converted between NVivo 10 for Windows format (.nvp) and NVivo 10 for Mac format (.nvpx). You need the project converter to:

Open an NVivo 10 for Mac project
Import an NVivo 10 for Mac project
Copy a project to or from the NVivo 10 for Mac format
Export a project to the NVivo 10 for Mac format

The project converter is not installed with your software—is downloaded and installed automatically the first time you convert a project between Windows and Mac formats.

The size of the download is approximately 185MB and can take more than a few minutes, depending on the speed of your internet connection.

Once the download and installation of the project converter is complete, the project conversion starts. Larger projects will take longer to convert than smaller projects. You can monitor the progress of your export in the Status bar at the bottom of the NVivo window.

Each time you convert a project between NVivo for Windows and NVivo for Mac formats (via open, import, copy or export), NVivo checks for updates to the converter. If an update is available, it is downloaded and installed automatically.
