Optimize project performance

If it feels like NVivo is running slowly, it is probably because you are working on a large project (or your computer has low specifications). This topic describes some of the things you can do to improve performance.

Ways to optimize project performance

The size of your project and the specifications of your computer can impact project performance—to help optimize performance, you can:

• Check that your computer meets the recommended system requirements

• Change the default setting for project recovery files

• Use compact and repair regularly

• Store large media files outside the project

• Clear the event log regularly (if you have turned it on)

• Display nodes as plain text

• If possible, limit your node hierarchy to three levels

• Limit the number of references shown in the Reference view of a node

• Perform regular maintenance on your computer (for example—ensure your hard disk is not fragmented and that your operating system is up to date)
